EVERETT, WA – MetroAir Virtual Airlines celebrated its first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner Monday with a special pre-delivery ceremony at Boeing’s Everett Delivery Center. The 787-8 variant of the Dreamliner is the first of 5 first 787 orders that MetroAir has placed with Boeing. MetroAir also has 5 options and 10 airframes to be leased.

MetroAir will initially deploy the 787-8 on a series of trial flights to Los Angeles, Portland, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Austin, and Fort Lauderdale from their central hub in Kansas City. This trial period will give MetroAir an opportunity for both flight and ground crews to become familiar and get hands-on experience with the aircraft. The 787-8 will be operate on these routes until March 1, at which point they will begin service on their permanently scheduled routes.

While specifics have not been announced beyond the initial Los Angeles-Manchester route, Chief Operating Officer William Hogarth stated “the 787 is expected to make appearances in Mumbai, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, and Honolulu”.

The high-profile Dreamliner is part of MetroAir’s broader fleet growth effort, which also includes the recent addition of the Embraer 145 to the regional fleet, and the Airbus A330-300 last year. Some of MetroAir’s narrow body fleet is also reaching the end of expected use, with their oldest airframes joining the airline nearly 10 years ago.

The interior of MetroAir;s 787-8 boasts 35 Prime class lie-flat seats, 25 premium economy seats, and 154 economy seats.

It is that time of the year! Sinterklaas is coming. He traditionally arrives in the Netherlands each year in mid-November (the first Saturday after 11 November) by steamboat from Spain. He then parades through the streets on his horse, welcomed by children cheering and singing traditional Sinterklaas songs. His Zwarte Piet assistants throw candy and small, round, gingerbread-like cookies, called either kruidnoten or pepernoten, into the crowd. The event is broadcast live on national television in the Netherlands and Belgium.

After this national arrival, all towns with a dock usually celebrate their own intocht van Sinterklaas (arrival of Sinterklaas). Local arrivals usually take place later on the same Saturday of the national arrival, the next Sunday (the day after he arrives in the Netherlands or Belgium), or one weekend after the national arrival. In places a boat cannot reach, Sinterklaas arrives by train, horse, horse-drawn carriage or even a fire truck.

And this year the pilots of CityLink are going to help out. We have arranged flights to and from Santander in Spain, to collect the horses of Sinterklaas, his assistents and of course the many presents Sinterklaas brings with him.

You will find the flight information on the website and we did get our present early this year, a brand new Bae146-300 to perform the flights with.

The new focus cities are strategically located and enable SparkJet to reach millions of new potential consumers, initially the first base to open will be Kansas City International Airport, Kansas (ICAO: KMCI) and will have a B738/B772 pilot and Flight Attendant base, the next move will be to open two international focus cities, one in Calgary International Airport, Alberta, Canada (ICAO:CYYC) and one in Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago, Chile. “We have use our connections and knowledge of the South American market to understand what the consumer wants and needs, so we decided the best business plan would be rolling out a low-cost, full service model with McDonnell Douglas MD-80′s and serve domestic and international destinations” said Zeke Elias about the new focus city in Chile.

The last new focus cities SparkJet will open is a base in Faaa International Airport in Faaa, Tahiti (ICAO:NTAA) which will open the door to the Asia and South Pacific market and will enable the crews to enjoy “Paradise”.

With the introduction of the new Focus Cities, SparkJet also announced the purchase of four B777-200LR’s from Boeing which will be coming on-line in the following weeks, “The 777′s allow us to expand to markets that the B763 did not enable us to, like Asia, the Middle East and Oceania said Zeke Elias in the email to the employees.

Finally SparkJet began ferrying two ERJ135LR’s and four ERJ170LR’s to both the Albuquerque International Airport (ICAO: KABQ) and Fort Lauderdale International Airport (ICAO: KFLL) hubs to replace the JS41′s and ERJ170′s. Sparkjet believes this strategy will enable them to further reduce costs and give the passenger a more modern and relaxed flying experience.

In the meantime, SparkJet is still accepting applications for First Officers, if you’re interested please apply at http://spark-jet.com/index.php/content/careers#close
