Welcome to 2014 here at Virtual United! We have some big news to start you off with so let’s get started!

The first thing you probably noticed is our new logo. Yes, we are still the same www.virtualua.org but we decided to undergo a new corporate rebranding to provide a more modern and sophisticated look. This new logo comes with several alternate versions for publications and forum signatures so stay tuned. We also created several new features for our members. These include a brand new forums, a pilot welcome package with desktop wallpapers and FS splashscreens, and lots more on the way for the new year!

Speaking of development, we are starting off the year with a bang. In the coming weeks, we will release another promotional video as well as some videos in coordination with our awesome partners. Probably the largest item on the agenda is a new face for Virtual United. We will be starting the process of revamping our current site to make it more functional and even give our pilots some features never before seen at a virtual airline. Stay tuned for more!

So the question rises, why all of these new updates? Is it just a bunch of new year resolutions? Of course not! Today we would like to announce some BIG news. After several months of negotiations and hard work, we have received official recognition from United Airlines, Inc. What does this mean for you, our pilots? Well it means now we have more resources to continue providing what we have done in the past year, just expect a lot more of it! This will include: product giveaways, contests with great prizes, discounts to our partners’ websites, and maybe even a real world convention for all of Virtual United’s staff and members!

Now the numbers. We are getting down to business here at Virtual United and our numbers are reflecting it. As of today, we have 326 ACTIVE pilots in our system and we average 60+ PIREPS per day! We also have launched weekly events and hub battles so be sure to check those out! As United does in the real world, we will be flying Team USA to Sochi for the Winter Olympics starting January 25, 2014.

With all of this news to track, these press releases may not be enough. Even if you aren’t a member yet, which you should be, come check out our Facebook page. We post daily to keep you updated with the organization’s status. You surely will not want to miss out on the big things coming for Virtual United. https://www.facebook.com/virtualunitedair

None the less, have a great day and blue skies, we hope to see your soon here at www.virtualua.org!

As you may have noticed, we have finally got around to rebranding our website. While I would not consider this new design “complete”, I thought it made sense to just go ahead and change the site before the new year. It’s already been a year and a month since I announced the the website rebranding! Many things contributed to the postponement of the redesign but, I am glad that it’s finally started. I believe the new design will assist us with branching out to do reviews, editorials, and to better serve the Flight Sim Community as a whole.

I hope you like what I’ve come up with, I’m certainly not a professional designer! I wanted to keep it simple yet more functional with more space dedicated to news and future content. Thanks to all our readers and the virtual airlines who post on VAFlash! I hope each and every one of you, your pilots, and staff have a very successful and productive new year!

Now for the real news of the day! As you can see from the logo above, VAFlash will be undergoing a transformation of sorts. The whole site will be redesigned and launched within a couple/few weeks. I will also be expanding the VaFlash staff from one to many! In addition to expanding beyond a one man shop, we will also be expanding VAFlash to include hardware and software reviews, editorials, and basically everything and anything related to Flight Simulation. This has been in the plans for quite some time but was delayed due to multiple reasons.

Look for more information to come within the following days and weeks!

Brussels, Belgium – Four years ago Flanders Airlines performed its first flight: An historical event and the start of new era. During the next four years this virtual airline has grown into the largest Belgian carrier, nowadays called Eurobelgian Airlines. This press release will present the latest changes at the start of the new IATA summer season.

Rebranding “All wings together”
As of the IATA summer season 2010, Eurobelgian Airlines and its subsidiaries will continue under one main brand: Eurobelgian. The Eurobelgian “holding” will consist of the main airline, Eurobelgian Airlines, a regional operator, Eurobelgian Régional and an African startup airline, Eurobelgian RDC. Each airline has its specific “wings” in the logo. All wings will strengthen the group. All wings together.

Boeing 777-200ER
Last weekend our latest aircraft acquisition, two brand new Boeing 777-200ERs, performed their first commercial flights at Eurobelgian Airlines. OO-EBX, painted in the GlobalOne livery was scheduled to perform the Brussels – Nairobi flight on Sunday, whereas OO-EBY first flight went to Kinshasa on Monday.

Our first Boeing 777 OO-EBX ready for take-off at runway 25R, Brussels Airport

IATA Summer season 2010
This weekend our new summer timetables were started. Thanks to the acquisition of the two 777s and two additional Embraer 170 regional aircraft, several new destinations will be part of the Eurobelgian network. These include: Marseille, Strasbourg, Venice, Enfidha, Conakry, Freetown, Abidjan, Lagos, Monrovia and Beijing.
The new summer timetables focus more than ever on guaranteeing good connections from Europe to our own long haul network and the network of the GlobalOne alliance. Our new flights to Amsterdam and Paris, focusing for 100% on transfer passengers, are proving this. Furthermore, increased frequencies are present to several European cities for both business and leisure activities.
The new timetables can be seen using the (updated) Flight Search module on our website.

Eurobelgian RDC
Because of the high preparations to match the European safety standards, the launch of our African subsidiary has been postponed till August 1, 2010.
Based at Kinshasa airport, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eurobelgian RDC will offer Central Africa a new, safe way of flying. The current fleet of two Fokker 100s and one 737-700 will serve the domestic and international network, adapted to the needs of the African and European business man. Most destinations will furthermore connect to the Eurobelgian Airlines flights towards Brussels and Johannesburg. In Brussels passengers can connect further on to several European destinations.

GlobalOne Alliance
The GlobalOne Alliance is reaching its final launch. Next to the current codeshare agreements with Meridian Airlines and Western Airlines, new agreements with airlines as Arabian Airlines, British Atlantic Airways and Central Asian Airlines are on its way!

Formally founded as VMAC Virtual Military Airlift Command in April, 2009 realized over the course of these many months, the name did not reflect the mission statement of the program. VMAC, never reflected a command of the US Air Force as it was representative of a multi-national air transport command. Over time this became unsettling as there was never a defined mission stating the goals of VMAC. Consequently there were a host of changes and updates to the site and it’s documentation that didn’t sit well with many.

Recent events dictated that this program needed it’s own Identity and to distance itself from the constant borage of emails received by those who shared just the acronym “VMAC” and those who claimed the rights to the title name Virtual Military Airlift Command. General Russell Hooten (Member) who is Senior Operations Advisor to CATS have worked to put this together and giving the program the stability it was missing for many months.

There have been no changes to operations, a name and website redesign and a definitive mission statement explaining who we are.

This does open opportunities for enhancements in our mission structure and setting up a more defined mission command programs. But for now we will get acquainted with the new site and name.

Every image, document, Ribbons, badges, medals and rank structure is original and designed specifically for CATS. There is not a single part of the CATS site that is borrowed from anyone in the hobby or the real world. The whole operations of CATS is original. The whole concept of this VA was presented at flightsim.com back in April.

Here is what we are:
Commissioned Air Transport Services (CATS). In the same way that the Navy has MSTS….Navy owned support ships crewed with civil service mariners.

CATS (Fictitious Air Force version) of the Navy MSTS. Air Forced owned support aircraft flown by commissioned civil service aircrews. Our job is to support but not engage in combat operations while providing airlifts when needed in a general support role around the world for the US Air Force and Air transport for all government departments needing air transportation.

The United States has seven federal uniformed services that commission officers.

The five armed services, and two noncombatant uniformed services.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps (NOAA Corps) is a uniformed branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (PHSCC) is the uniformed personnel system of the United States Public Health Service. Commissioned officers of NOAA and PHS wear uniforms that are derived from Navy uniforms, except that the commissioning devices, buttons, and insignia reflect their specific service.

Now we have a third noncombatant uniformed service that commission officers. Commissioned Air Transport Services (CATS). Wearing a uniform that is derived from Air Force uniforms except that the commissioning devices, buttons, and insignia reflect that of CATS.

We are excited in the change and it opens up a host of new mission opportunities for our members.

It was announced on the 28th of June that BlueSky Virtual Airways will soon be changing over to become a new airline. The airline is currently undergoing a complete rebranding, including a new name, website, fleet and schedules. The airline will start off by operating from two hubs (Malta and Gibraltar), and will be aimed at the Mediterranean tourist market; transporting passengers from many European airports. 3 McDonnel Douglas MD-82s have been acquired from Alitalia, and these will be used to their full potential across both hubs.

When asked for a statement, the CEO, Chris Roberts, had this to say: “We believe that changes were necessary in the current financial climate. There was a distinct lack of pilots, and this was probably due to the current oversaturation in the UK virtual airline market. Because of this, we decided that a radical change was needed.

“Because of the competitiveness of the market, we need to make major changes to the airline, and as a result, we will not be accepting new signups until these changes have been completed, but existing pilots will be given the privilege of using all the features and schedules of the new VA. We hope to be fully operational by the end of July.”

As of now, there is no actual date set for the relaunch, but it is expected to be near the end of July, and more news will be posted when we know about it.
