United Virtual Airlines (UVA) President and Chief Operating
Officer David Klain today announced that the UVA Board of Directors
approved implementation of Star Alliance and code share flights from
the United Airlines real world schedule effective November 1, 2005.
This upgrade significantly expands UVA flight schedule destinations and
opens up large parts of Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Europe, Africa and
the Middle East to UVA’s 500 pilots, who will have access to a wide
variety of aircraft, from Beechcraft 1900 to Boeing 747 and everything
in between, including Embraer EMB-175 and Boeing 737-400 aircraft.
"As UVA simulates United and not Star Alliance, the UVA Board made a
decision to add flights from the United schedule which use the same
equipment, and equipment variants, used in the United fleet, " Jim
Harnes, Senior Vice President of the airline said. "For example, if a
code share flight in the United schedule uses an Airbus A341 it is not
available to UVA pilots; however, if it uses an Airbus A321 it is
available to UVA pilots. The Board determined this was the best
way to maximize the number of new routes while not fundamentally
altering the kinds of equipment flown by UVA Pilots."
"This important upgrade provides a very major expansion of UVA’s route
structure while maintaining the integrity of the UVA brand and quality
of experience which members expect from United Virtual."
