VATUSA announces new training academy

VATUSA today announced that it would now begin to train it’s new air traffic controllers. Officials will be using FAA guidelines, and hope the new training academy will help the new controllers learn the ropes.

Any new member joining VATUSA as a controller will now automatically be enrolled in the new program. The organization plans to teach new students the basics of air traffic control, and receive an introduction to the tools they will use while on the job.

Students will then be allowed to work hands on with delivery, ground, and tower control, where shortly after they will be tested on their performance. Students that do graduate, will then be able to select an ARTCC where they will continue in training with sectors instructors.

"The concept of the training academy is a giant step forward for this region", stated VATUSA Director Jeff Turner.  "With the time students put forth at the academy they will transition to their selected ARTCC with a high level of experience, in addition to having their voice endorsement.  I am proud of my staff and all of the individuals at the ARTCC level who have contributed in getting this program set-up in the past six months."

The new training academy is currently scheduled for 1st Quarter 2006. Additional details of the program, will be provided by VATUSA prior to opening.
