Canadian Xpress December 2016 Challenge – Real World Ops I

CXA_Dece_2016_ChallengeThis month we are trying something new for our challenges where we will follow a real world and see if we can do better. Since this our first try at this new format, it’s totally up to the pilot to choose a route and aircraft (as long as you’re rated for it).

The real world ops title says it all. Pick a real world flight and fly it online at the same time the real flight is making the same flight in the real world. This however means there is no time offsetting allowed. So if you choose to fly during daylight hours, you will have to pick a fight that is flying somewhere in the world at the same time.

The easiest way to pick a fight is to visit http://flightaware.com and select a flight. You can browse flights by airport, aircraft type or real world airline.

Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some Continue reading

Platinum Airways in Festive Mood

PlatinumHoHoHoPlatinum Airways, the Open Skies virtual airline, is in festive mood this December. Destination of the Week will be visiting four airports that are associated with special traditions: looking after our children in the festive season. Ho Ho Ho’s culmination is Platinum’s traditional Christmas flight out of Santa’s home airport in Finland.

Four years after our first Ho Ho Ho series, Platinum Airways is revisiting special treats for children in Santa’s month as they are celebrated over the world. On 6 December, Belgium and the Netherlands have Sinterklaas, the bearded saint dropping presents for kids through chimneys. As Sinterklaas resides outside Madrid, Spain, our first Ho Ho Ho (2) DOTW is LETO – Madrid’s Torejon Airport. Amu Navruz is Iran’s version of Santa, and that’s why our second DOTW is Teheran’s OIIE – Khomeiny Airport. Next, we’ll be paying tribute to Flying Santa on the US East Coast with a visit to KHMT – Hemet-Ryan Airport. And we end the series with our traditional Christmas DOTW: Santa’s HQ near EFRO – Rovaniemi Airport.

As per usual, each DOTW comes with official charts for each airfield and links to add-on scenery when available. It concludes with a video selection with real-world approaches, ground traffic and Continue reading

Canadian Xpress November Fly-In – Eagle County

CXA_Nove_2016_FlyIn
With one of the most dangerous approaches in the United States, Eagle County Regional Airport serves the world-famous ski resorts of the Eagle-Vail area in Colorado.

The Airport is largely seasonal, with the greatest number of scheduled flights operating during the winter months. During the ski season, Eagle County Regional Airport is the second busiest airport in Colorado after the Denver International Airport. Eagle serves as a great alternative to Denver for skiers in the Eagle Valley because of its close proximity to the major international ski resorts of Vail, Beaver Creek, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Breckenridge.

Due to the abundance of flights into Eagle County Regional Airport and the ability to accept larger aircraft than Aspen, a number of passengers fly into Eagle County Regional Airport rather than attempting to fly into Aspen. Operations into the Continue reading

Cars

Folks,

Those of you who post regularly I’m sure have noticed that I haven’t been responding to requests to post on your behalf recently.  I posted the reason for this on FB but forgot to post here.  I’m still here and we’re not closing or anything.  On April 17th my home flooded.  We had around 2 feet of water in our home.  I’ve just been really busy with all the cleanup and turmoil that occurs when an event like this happens.  We lost everything downstairs, my wife’s car was totaled, and my truck took on water.  Still trying to save the truck.  We were living in a hotel for 5 weeks but are back home now.  We still have no walls, floor, or kitchen.  I may post pictures at some point.  What a mess.

I do assure you that I will be back and will resume posting for you and your virtual airlines again.  My apologies for lack of communication but our focus was getting back in the house.  Thanks for your understanding..

Best Regards,
