On December 23, 2008, the FSX virtual airline market witnessed the introduction of flyScandinavia Virtual and its Stokhom-based operations. The Scandinavian airline has a fleet of two Pratt & Whitney-powered Airbus A318s, and an Avro RJ100 on a short-term lease, with a Dornier 328Jet, and Embraer 145 in the works. All aircraft are available for download on their website, www.flyscandinavia.co.cc.
“Before the spring we will double our fleet with the arrival of 2 Embraer 145 and two Fairchild Dornier 328JET, which will operate under the flyScandinavia Jet Connect brand,” said C.E.O., Joakim Holmström Zenk, “with [the new aircraft], we can offer regional services in Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia.” The Avro RJ100 will be used for charter operations and will eventually be replaced by a larger aircraft type, such as the Airbus A318, depending on load factors for the planned Nice, France and Hemavan, Sweeden routes this winter. If numbers are below expectations, an aircraft smaller than the A318 will be considered.
Current destinations from their Stockholm-Bromma hub include: Skelleftea, Norway; Umea, Sweden; Nice, France; London City, England; and Hemavan/Tarnaby, Sweden with a planned Swedish expansion into Vilhemina; Malmberget; Arvidsjaur; Trollhattan; Skovde; and Lycksele. Service to Trieste, Italy is planned as summer charter route and plans will be finalized as the summer travel season begins.
In related news, flyScandinavia’s sister company, SCL Swedecraft Leasing, will offer conversions of ATR from pax to either QC or cargo, and upgrades of -500 series to -600 series. 8 ATR 42 and 4 ATR 72-500′s acquired for dry-lease, and 3 Airbus A300-600R for sale or lease have also been noted in the flyScadinavia aircraft inventory.
