Platinum Airways, the very virtual Open Skies airline, is ready for a very busy summer season. Its Destination of the Week theme focuses on the good and bad experiences of Summer Holidays, the airline has launched a military division and the relief flights received yet another update.
During July and August, Platinum Airways’ central Destination of the Week (DOTW) theme will be Summer Holidays. Spread over nine weeks, pilots will visit Europe’s and North America’s busiest holiday destinations, will visit the holiday destinations that have the highest probability of environmental cancellations (Keflavik, Iceland) and industrial action (Athens, Greece) action, will try to overcome guaranteed delays at Europe’s and North America’s top ranked airports with the worst reputations in that field, etc.
Platinum Airways pilots have contributed strongly to the inception of several military missions. These missions consist of a wide variety of tasks, including in-flight refuelling and transporting marines and cargo, and take place throughout the world. Although the tasks are quite specific and may require a specific aircraft type, they may be flown at the pilot’s time of preference. The military missions have proven very popular so far.
Also, the relief flights division has received yet another update. A relief destination for this week is Mexico City (MMMX), as the capital city region was struck by the season’s first hurricane, Arlene. Also, a special relief flight to Pyongyang’s Sunan airport (ZKPY) has been scheduled to airlift € 10 m worth of food supplies to North Korea’s estimated 650,000 undernourished people. The northern hemisphere’s warm summer months are likely to lead to forest fires and Platinum Airways pilots will probably be invited to provide assistance to local fire brigades.
Keen to deliver on its mission to keep the fun in the hobby, Platinum Airways is probably the only virtual airline to combine an Open Skies policy, allowing its pilots to fly any mission of their choice with the aircraft of their choice at the time of their choice, with a strategic hub network. The carefully selected hubs, Newark (KEWR), Dallas-Fort Worth (KDFW), Vancouver (CYVR), Perth (YPPH) and Brussels (EBBR), should be attractive to a global membership. Sticking to the KISS principle (Keep It Straight and Simple), Platinum Airways hosts an active forum and a screenshot of the month competition, with the winner providing the main picture on its home page for the next month.
