Canadian Xpress March Fly-In: Easter Island

Easter Island is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world. The nearest inhabited land (50 residents) is Pitcairn Island at 2,075 kilometers (1,289 mi), and the nearest continental point lies in central Chile, at 3,512 kilometers (2,182 mi).

Canadian Xpress® would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, March 16th at 20h00est (Sunday 01h00z) for our March 2013 fly-in where we fly a long haul route from Lima Peru (SPIM) to Easter Island (SCIP).

Canadian Xpress February Fly-In: Fresh Powder Snow

Jackson Hole has become the home to many of the world’s best skiers as the terrain is considered to be some of the most challenging in North America. In addition to the skiable terrain inbounds, there is an even larger area to be explored off-piste (out of bounds). These areas are accessed through marked gates by expert skiers/boarders who are equipped with avalanche safety gear. The terrain has not only attracted the top skiers in the world but also one of the leading ski film companies, Teton Gravity Research. Jackson Hole is home to one of the most well known expert ski runs in the world, Corbet’s Couloir.

Canadian Xpress November Fly-In: Paro, Bhutan

Paro Airport is the only international airport in Bhutan. The airport is located 3.7 mi from Paro in a deep valley on the bank of the river Paro Chhu at an elevation of 7,300 ft. With surrounding peaks as high as 18,000 ft it is considered one of the world’s most challenging airports and as of October 2009, only eight pilots in the world are certified to land at the airport. Flights at Paro are allowed under visual meteorological conditions only and are restricted to daylight hours from sunrise to sunset.

Virtual PIA holds First ever Pakistan Fly In

Virtual Pakistan International Airlines (VPIA), Pakistan’s only VATSIM certified virtual airline, has held the first ever Pakistan fly in, on April 3rd. The event organised by VPIA was supported on an official scale by VATAsia, VATME, VATIndia and a number of virtual airlines, including MEA Virtual, Arabian Virtual Airlines, Cathay Pacific Virtual, Singapore Virtual Airlines, Air India Virtual and Indian Airlines Virtual.

The organizer of the event, Ahmed Ahsen, on behalf of VPIA thanked all participants of this first fly in held in history – more than 65 flights were handled by two excellent controllers, Kamal Bhatti at Karachi and Sheheryar Ansari at Lahore, making this fly in one of the largest ever in the Middle East and South Asia region. After the official recognition of VPIA as a partner by vatsim, traffic in the region has increased by 500% in the month of March alone, a positive indicator of the coming times. Continue reading
