Editorial: Why I Started an Airline

Why I Started An Airline

By: Mahmoud A. Fadli

I believe that everyone has a dream and a passion; something that makes getting up each and every morning worth while. For some, that passion can be helping others, and for others that passion is giving back to a community that has given something to them. For others still, like myself, that passion is a combination of things that is held up by an overriding love: flight.

Ever since I was old enough to think, I looked skyward. Whether it was a jetliner or a small piper buzzing the skies above me, my eyes would always give these unique human marvels of engineering an extra, prolonged stare. I remember the walks that I took with my father on the little pathways surrounding San Francisco International Airport and watching the airplanes land on the 28s. At ten years old, I took my first demonstration flight out of San Carlos Airport, taking the controls of a Diamond Katana DA-20 and merrily working the pattern to perfect my take off and landing skills. Those moments at the controls were like little bits of orchestrated heaven as I went through the checklists and guided my small bird down toward the runway.

Flight is one of those things that is hard to convey to someone who has never had the privilege of taking the controls of an aircraft. Sure, you can describe it as best you can, but there are some things that simply cannot be expressed. It is hard to put into words something that is felt, and even those who could not have flown, like Leonardo Continue reading

SparkJet Virtual Announces Acquisition and New Flights!

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida — SparkJet Virtual has announced the acquisition of Pacific Blue Virtual during their press conference in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, February 15th, 2013. The acquisition is great for SparkJet since both airlines shared a very similar fleet and business model; the most important factor of the acquisition is that it allows SparkJet to expand to markets they had not been able to serve. With the acquisition SparkJet is planning to introduce about 20 frames, at a rate of two per month and is looking at new focus cities around the country.
“Initially only five aircraft, a JS41, two A320’s and two B738’s will be joining the fleet after being retrofitted with the SparkJet product” said SparkJet CEO Zeke Elias. We are adding new destinations that we were not able to previously serve due to fleet constraints.

The new frequencies being added are as follows:

From KABQ:
Portland International Airport (ICAO: KPDX)                                                   Once Daily
General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport (ICAO: KBOS) Twice Daily
Lambert-St Louis International Airport (ICAO: KSTL)                                   Once Daily

THE VIRTUAL UNITED STATES AIR FORCE (vUSAF) ANNOUNCES “OPERATION RED FLAG”

Red Flag, the largest military aerial training event in America. The call to attend is heard by numerous air forces throughout the world. Pilots’ mettle is tested on a daily basis as they train and fight with their brothers and sisters in arms from across the world.

We’re looking for skilled pilots to join up with the Virtual United States Air Force for our Red Flag exercise. By enlisting now, you can potentially complete the program just in time for Red Flag Nellis, one of the biggest events on VATSIM!

Our training program through our Air Education and Training Command will ensure that you learn the basics of your airframe before you move on to SUPT, Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training, where you’ll learn how to fly in formation, to fly complicated approaches, and to maneuver your airframe in a way that puts you a step above the rank-and-file pilots of the airlines!

From SUPT, your final training phase is Mission Qualification Training (MQT). In this phase, most airframes will work directly with an Instructor Pilot in a one-on-one setting that will iron out your skills and instincts to make you a formidable force for air superiority.

After you have proven yourself, you will be one of the elite pilots who are eligible to participate in Operation Red Flag. In an arena as large as Switzerland, operations will be conducted in the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) where your piloting skills will be tested against Continue reading
