SmartJet Virtual Re-Imagined

SmartJetm2

SmartJet virtual has now been in operation for 6 months, and in that time we have expanded rapidly from a fleet of 2 Boeing 737-700′s, now to a fleet of over 20 aircraft including Boeing 737-600′s, -700′s, and -800′s, and we haven’t stopped there! In June we are set to launch our new regional carrier En-route Airline, the airline will serve smaller Canadian destinations including Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Regina Saskatchewan, and Lethbridge Alberta. Aside from our growth we have also begun to re-imagine our airline with our new Logo, and the addition of 2 new American routes to both KLAX, and KMCO.

We are currently expanding our route network rapidly, and are always open to new pilots! http://flysmartjet.net/

Caal Airways Monthly Update for May 2014

Caal

Welcome to the Caalair update for May. It has been another great month for us at Caal Airways. We welcomed 3 new pilots to the ranks and have already posted flights on the board. An event  from Dublin to Manchester was held on Vatsim and was well received by those that attended. Good news also for the fleet as a couple of old favorites were returned to active service, the MD11 and an EMB170.  A total of 86 flights were flown which covered 60169 Miles. Our screenshot competition for the monthly magazine cover produced some excellent pictures, some of which have been placed into the mag. The staff at Caalair thank all their pilots and welcome the new recruits and look forward to a great month in May.

Canadian Xpress May Fly-In – Mount St. Helens

CXA_May_2014_FlyIn

On May 18th, 1980 at 8:32pst, Mount St. Helens after 2 months of increased seismic activity, catastrophically erupted. The eruption triggered an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale causing the North face to collapse into the Columbia River basin and reducing the mountain’s summit elevation from 9,677 ft to 8,365 ft.

By 17:30pst that evening after more than 9 hours of a vigorous plume of ash, reaching 16 miles above seas level, the ash column began to decline. On that day 34 years ago this month, Mount St. Helens released 24 megatons of thermal energy, 1.5 tons of sulfur dioxide and 2.8 cubic kilometers of debris. Sadly the event also killed 57 people, and nearly 7000 big game animals from the mountain area.

Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to Continue reading

Platinum Airways Looks At Volcanoes

PlatinumVolcanoes

Over the next five weeks, Platinum Airways, the very virtual Open Skies airline, will look at the effect of volcanoes on aviation. The Ash Destination of the Week series will take us around the globe.

Four years ago, large parts of European air space were closed due to volcanic ash clouds. Platinum Airways’ May DOTW theme will focus on the effect of volcanoes on aviation. The series starts with a visit to the Eyjafjallajökull in southern Iceland, as this volcano’s eruption led to the cancellation of thousands of flights, leaving millions of passengers stranded or rerouted. Our first DOTW is Reykjavík’s domestic airport (BIRK). Arguably the first major emergency caused by volcanic ash was BA9 from EGLL to NZAA, with several stops. On its leg from WMKK to YPPH, the B744 flew through a volcanic ash cloud that originated from Mount Galunggung. Its four engines shut down and the aircraft successfully diverted to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (WIHH). The third Ash DOTW takes us to Clark International (RPLC), the closest airport to Mount Pinubo, the volcano with the strongest eruption over the past decades. The two final Ash DOTW’s look at what may happen in the future. The largest supervolcano on land is Ash destination #4: the Yellowstone Caldera. The main access airport into Yellowstone is Jackson Hole (KJAC). We end the series with the volcano that poses a potential threat to the largest population living underneath, Mount Vesuvius near Naples, Italy, and its airport, LIRN.

As usual, DOTW offers charts to be Continue reading

Caal Airways Monthly Update for April 2014

Caal

It has been about six months since the last release of “Clover Flight Magazine” and the airline has seen many changes. Many new pilots have joined our ranks. Also some pilots have taken the opportunity to become P1 and P2 rated pilots with our Vatsim training. We welcome all our new pilots and congratulate our Trained ones. Sadly some bad news, Due to lack of revenue and increasing running costs, Our FAJS Hub in South Africa had to be disbanded and the aircraft utilized on other routes. The airline still services SA. with all routes still in service but flown on a “as required ” basis. Stansted has also seen some changes and all passenger flight have been cancelled. Mail flights will continue and a new heavy haulage aircraft has been employed to cater for the new operations. The combining of our two hubs in Ireland into one district has proven to be a winner with many new flights now available, both short and long haul. Fleet changes have been made with some aircraft being retired and some into storage or kept for parts. I have no doubt we will be seeing some more modern aircraft in the future. Caal Airways is a growing virtual airline and is always on the lookout for prospective pilots. Why not come and visit us and take the next step and start your career with us.
