This month’s challenge and its name, was inspired by a YouTube Video posted by Paul (CXA002) of an A320 crew on approach to Queenstown New Zealand. It will quickly show you why Queenstown is listed on SimTours.net as an airport with a dangerous and difficult approach.

Air Fresno to Reopen

In May of 2012 Air Fresno entered Chapter 13 bankruptcy due to a decline of its customer base and the airlines parent company over extending itself on other projects. Over the next few months all other projects under McKay Virtual Aviation’s management were cancelled and existing projects were closed. With a totally clean slate work began on the most economical launch of Air Fresno for the fall of 2013, using the available remaining staff and specific flights that were popular with the airline since its initial launching in March, 1998. Considerations were made to incorporate many new expectations regarding fleet choices as well, with a payware regional aircraft still being the choice of those who expressed a preference.

Currently Air Fresno is expected to return to operational status in mid to late November, it is seeking exemptions from 14 CFR Part 139 restrictions so that it may move its operations from Fresno-Yosemite International (FAT) to the downtown Continue reading

freshJet Launches Long-Haul Operations

GLASGOW, UK – freshJet completed it’s first ever long-haul service on 6th October 2013 when Airbus A330-300 G-FSZA operated flight FRX701 from Glasgow to Orlando in Florida, USA. The flight marks the first long-haul operation for the airline.

freshJet placed an order for two A330-343X aircraft in May of this year to begin long-haul operations from the UK, with rumoured destinations in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The popular holiday destination of Orlando was selected to be the first long-haul destination, with plans to start flights to Cancun and Vancouver in the coming months. Long-haul flights will also be offered from Manchester.

Both aircraft are configured in a two-class layout featuring Economy and Premium Economy cabins, capable of seating 335 passengers.

In addition to new long-haul service, freshJet is keen to continue to develop its European network, where it currently operates Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft, by adding a number of new destinations for the Winter 2013/2014 period.

The second A330, G-FSZB, is scheduled for delivery in late October.

Canadian Xpress October Fly-In – Northern Lights

The bright dancing lights of the aurora borealis (Northern Lights) are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere. The lights are seen above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres. 2013 is the peak period of an eleven year cycle.

Caal Airways Monthly Update for September 2013

Another successful month for Caal Airways. Our Pilot Training Director Zack Millar has secured our P2 Vatsim . Zack has put in a lot of time preparing documents and training aids and then completed an audit by Vatsim that now enables us to train, examine and award P2 Vatsim.

We also had 5 new pilots join our ranks and they have started accumulating their hours. We are currently ranked 78 at VA Central and climbing month by month.
